DESIGN.md — Taiho Ventures (Industrial Blueprint)

Per-style brand authority for src/styles/blueprint-cvc/. Produced and maintained by columbus-design-md-builder. Read by columbus-design-author at scaffold time and by columbus-design-iterator on every refinement. Treat sections 1–7 as canonical truth.

1. Aesthetic Anchor

Primary family: Industrial / utilitarian — engineering-document register, technical drawing as design language. Secondary remix: Data-Dense Pro — charts, schematics, and tabular data are the primary content, not ornament. Reference brands: NASA technical documentation (engineering-document register) × Edward Tufte (data-visualization discipline) × Lufthansa 1970s identity by Otl Aicher (corporate technical-modernism) Visual atmosphere: The page reads like a technical manual or a clinical-trial design schematic, not a marketing site. Charts and diagrams carry the substantive meaning; the layout exists to organize them with grid discipline. Cool blue-gray monochrome with a single rationed Taiho Red accent — the kind of red that draws the eye to a state change in a control panel, not the kind that decorates.

2. Brand Voice

Adjectives: plain, austere, concrete, evidence-based, understated. Voice anchor: Orwell — the craftsman / tradesman voice (full fingerprint in anti-slop-copy/references/voices.md). Voice sample:

The load-bearing principle: the prose disappears so the substance is visible. The linguistic version of the Industrial Blueprint anchor — the chart and the cap-table data are what the reader came for; the language stays out of the way.

3. Color Palette & Roles

Mode: light Dominant: #1A2433 (--blueprint-ink) — body type, headlines, hairlines, rules Accent: #E31B13 (--blueprint-red) — Taiho Red, official spec from the corporate brand book. Reserved strictly for state-change moments: active investments, current deal stage, critical metrics, the single most important data point on a diagram. Surfaces:

Chart system: #2563EB (--blueprint-chart-primary) steel blue for primary chart fills; #6B7280 (--blueprint-chart-mid) and #94A3B8 (--blueprint-chart-tertiary) for supporting series.

Notes: No gradients. Color is set in flat blocks. Taiho Red is rationed — its frequency is its value; the moment it appears everywhere it stops meaning anything. Taiho Sepia and Taiho Yellow stay out of this concept entirely; those belong to the parent corporate identity, and Ventures has its own venture-facing palette.

4. Typography Rules

Contrast comes from proportional sans for prose vs. monospace for every numeric value, code, identifier, ticker, and technical callout. The Bell Labs / NASA / Lufthansa engineering-document move: same designer, same metrics, deliberately related but visually distinguished by proportional vs. monospace. Weight extremes: 400 (body) vs. 700 (display). No 500 in display. Mono only at 400 and 500. Size scale: H1 3rem, H2 1.875rem, H3 1.25rem, body 1rem, caption / mono-values 0.875rem Max font sizes per page: 3 Banned (do not use): Inter, Roboto, Open Sans, Lato, system stacks, Space Grotesk, DM Sans, Geist, any serif, any trendy SaaS-grotesk.

5. Layout & Density

Grid: 12-column with intentional breaks. Diagrams take full bleed (12 of 12). Body type runs in 6–7 columns for readability. Mono-formatted callouts and legends sit in 3-column adjacent slots to the right of body text. Tables span full grid. Container max-width: 1280px — technical documents run wide. Section rhythm: Diagram-text-diagram-text. Full-bleed diagrams alternate with dense reading-width paragraphs that have mono callouts hanging in the right margin. The page reads like a technical drawing with margin notes. Min container padding: 24px (mobile), 64px (desktop) Asymmetry / overlap commitments:

6. Atmosphere & Media

Hero treatment: Solid paper (--blueprint-paper) with a 1px hairline border framing the page. The hero is a diagram, not a photograph or a headline-over-image — typically the firm's investment landscape rendered as a therapeutic-area-by-clinical-stage matrix, or a syndicate co-investor force graph. Atmospheric layers: 1px gridlines at 6–8% opacity forming a faint 16px engineering-paper grid across the full page. 1px hairline rules between sections in --blueprint-rule. Section numbers (§1.0) in mono in the gutter. Shadow style: None. Engineering documents don't have shadows. Depth comes from line weight, color contrast, and grid alignment. Media stance: type-only Stance reasoning: Charts and diagrams ARE the substantive content — they're inline SVGs treated as data visualization, not as media. The page rejects marketing photography entirely (no lab beauty shots, no styled team headshots, no abstract science imagery). Atmosphere comes from typographic discipline, the faint engineering grid, and the rationed Taiho Red.
